To use it, you'll need
When you are ready to play a large singing bowl, reach for a striker that matches its scale. This extra-large wooden king stick measures 26 x 9.5cm, giving you a firm grip and enough weight to draw out a full, sustained tone rather than a thin tap.
Spiritual meaning
In Himalayan sound practice, the striker is treated as an extension of the player's intention. Many practitioners choose a stick sized to the bowl so the strike feels balanced, allowing the sound to build gradually rather than being forced. The wood itself is valued for its steady, grounding quality, in keeping with the earthy tone it produces against metal.
How to use
- Hold the stick near its centre for control, or closer to the end for a fuller swing
- Run the padded or wooden end around the rim to build a continuous tone, or strike the side of the bowl for a single note
- Vary pressure and speed to change volume and pitch
- Store away from damp conditions to protect the wood
