On a warm evening with the windows open, a few drops of Citronella oil in the diffuser bring a sharp, lemony-green scent into the room, familiar to anyone who has spent summer evenings outdoors. Steam-distilled from the grass Cymbopogon nardus grown in Vietnam, it is one of the most recognisable garden and grass oils.
Symbolism
Citronella grass has long been grown throughout Southeast Asia, both as a garden plant and as a source of household oil, traditionally reached for on warm evenings spent outside. Many people diffuse it alongside lemongrass or eucalyptus-type oils for a bright, green, outdoor-feeling blend.
How to use
- Diffuse outdoors or near open windows on warm evenings, alone or blended with lemongrass.
- Dilute well in a carrier oil before any skin contact, and patch test first.
- Do not ingest, and keep away from children and pets.
- Check with a doctor before use in pregnancy.
