Carved from Albasia wood and finished with an antique-style patina, this decorative mask is modelled on the traditional tribal masks of Timor, in the Maritime Southeast Asia region of Indonesia. It is designed purely as a wall piece for the home, sized at 27 x 20 cm to make a clear statement without dominating the wall.
Spiritual meaning
On Timor, tribal masks were traditionally carved as a tribute to ancestors and protective deities, and in ceremonial dances they were believed to let the wearer, often a priest, shaman or chosen dancer, act as a channel for the spirit the mask represented. This decorative piece draws on that visual language purely as a design, without being used in any ceremony itself.
