To use it, you'll need
Before the diffuser goes on for the evening, many people like to check what's actually inside the bottle. This oil is steam-distilled from the fruit of Illicium verum, the star-shaped pod grown in China and known to most kitchens as star anise, with a warm, liquorice-like scent that fills a room quickly.
Symbolism
In East Asian tradition, the eight-pointed star anise pod is linked to luck and completeness, and its warming, sweet aroma has long been burned or diffused around the turn of the year. In aromatherapy circles it is traditionally associated with comfort and a sense of renewal, one of the spicier notes many people reach for as the seasons change.
