Getting dressed in the morning, a dab of petitgrain has the same fresh, green character many people know from colognes. Steam-distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree, Citrus aurantium var. amara, in Paraguay, it has a sweet, slightly woody citrus smell.
Energetic properties
Petitgrain has long been a mainstay of perfumery, prized for a scent that bridges citrus and wood without leaning too far into either. In aromatherapy tradition it is associated with confidence and quiet optimism, and it blends particularly well with neroli or other citrus oils.
How to use
- Add a few drops to a diffuser in the morning
- Dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin, and patch test first
