A cotton throw of 125 × 150 cm, woven with a bold navy zigzag and finished with tassels along the edges. Large enough to cover a two-seat sofa or to lie across the foot of a bed, light enough to fold into a bag and take outside for an evening that turns cool.
Symbolism
The zigzag is one of the oldest motifs in hand weaving and appears in textile traditions all over the world, usually read as water, as mountains, or as the passage between the two. A throw is also the cloth many people keep for one purpose only: the blanket that goes over the knees during meditation, or the cover laid down before an altar is set out.
Care
- Follow the care label. Deep-dyed cotton can bleed, so wash it on its own the first time.
- Dry it away from direct sun, which fades strong colours.
- Shake the tassels out and comb them straight by hand after washing.
- If a thread snags, pull it back through from the reverse rather than cutting it.
