Molten Glass Bowl on Rare Parasite Wood

This bowl is formed from hand-blown recycled glass melted over a piece of rare parasite wood, rather than the Gamal wood root used elsewhere in this range. Made in Indonesia, the glass hardens around the wood's own unusual shape and texture as it cools, giving this piece a noticeably different grain from the rest of the collection. Its compact size suits a shelf, desk or small tabletop display.

Symbolism

Parasite wood forms are prized in Balinese woodcraft precisely because they are uncommon: the grain and shape come from growth patterns that do not repeat easily. Many people see a piece built around this kind of wood as inherently one-of-a-kind, more so than pieces made from more regular root shapes.
