This Kashaka shaker is made from smooth Suar wood with a light, beach-inspired finish, joined in a connected double-ball design that clicks and shakes as it rotates around the hand. Its compact size makes it easy to carry to music sessions, festivals or drum circles.
Symbolism
Also known as African hand castanets, Kashaka shakers are traditionally used to build rhythm and coordination through direct, hands-on percussion. The connected balls allow for fast, flowing sounds that range from soft and calming to energetic, depending on the motion used.
How to use
- Loop the cord over your fingers and rotate your wrist to set the balls clicking
- Practise slowly at first, then build up speed for faster rhythms
- Clean with a dry cloth only
- Store away from damp or humid conditions
