Symbolism
Holly and ivy are among the oldest midwinter plants in British and European folklore, brought indoors as evergreens that keep their colour through the coldest months. Holly is traditionally linked to protection and ivy to steadfastness, and the pair has decorated homes at this time of year for centuries.
How to use
- Add a few drops to an oil burner or wax warmer dish with water, and light a tealight underneath.
- A drop or two also works well in unscented potpourri or diffuser reeds.
- Keep burners and candles on a heat-resistant surface, within sight, away from draughts, fabrics, children and pets.
