This table runner is woven from water hyacinth fibre in the Robusta pattern and finished with a fringed edge. It measures 150 x 36 cm, with a heavier, coarser weave than the standard range.
Symbolism
Water hyacinth is a fast-growing water plant that Southeast Asian weavers dry and work into mats and runners, making practical use of an abundant material. The thicker Robusta weave keeps the fibre close to its raw, rustic state, a heavier centrepiece for a table set for a longer gathering.
