Small Molten Glass Bowl on Wood with Stand

This small bowl pairs hand-blown recycled glass with a piece of natural Gamal wood, set on its own compact stand. Made in Bali, it follows the same process as its larger counterpart in this range, only scaled down to suit a narrow shelf, desk or bathroom windowsill. The glass hardens directly onto the wood as it cools, so the fit between the two is exact.

Symbolism

In Balinese craft tradition, this glass-and-wood pairing is often read as a small, everyday meeting of two elements: fire-shaped glass and earth-grown wood. Many people keep a piece like this within easy reach, as much for its shape as for what it can hold. Because no two wood roots are alike, this bowl's grain and outline are unique to this one piece, and the stand lets it stand on its own without support.
