Airing out a room that has been shut up for a while, a few drops of Niaouli oil in the diffuser bring a fresh, camphoraceous, slightly sweet scent, related to both tea tree and cajuput. Steam-distilled from the leaves of Melaleuca quinquenervia grown in Indonesia, it belongs to the same Melaleuca family used across the Pacific and Southeast Asia.

Melaleuca leaf oils such as niaouli have a long household history across Pacific island communities, traditionally reached for their clean, brisk character whenever a fresh, wake-up scent is wanted. Many people diffuse it alongside eucalyptus or mint-type oils for a crisp, airy blend.
How to use
- Diffuse alone or blended with eucalyptus or mint-type oils for a fresh accord.
- Dilute in a carrier oil before any skin use, and patch test a small area first.
