Niaouli will not win any prizes for the prettiest smell in a collection, but many people keep a bottle nearby regardless. Steam-distilled from the leaves and twigs of Melaleuca viridiflora in Indonesia, it has a sharp, camphorous, earthy scent related to tea tree and cajuput.
Energetic properties
Niaouli belongs to the same melaleuca family long used across Southeast Asia and the Pacific in everyday household tradition. In aromatherapy it is generally chosen for its brisk, clearing character rather than for how it smells straight from the bottle, and it blends well with sharper eucalyptus or pine notes.
How to use
