Molten Glass Wavy Bowl on Wood 18cm

This bowl takes its name from the gentle wave running through its rim, formed as molten glass was left to flow and settle over a natural Gamal wood base. Made in Indonesia, the clear glass follows every curve and groove of the wood beneath it, giving the piece a fluid, organic outline rather than a perfectly round one. Its pale wood tones and clear glass bring a calm, understated character to a room.

Symbolism

Balinese makers see this kind of settling, glass finding its own wave-like line over an uneven root, as a small demonstration of adapting to what is already there rather than imposing a fixed shape. Many people read this as a gentle metaphor for flexibility in everyday life. Because each wood base is different, no two wavy bowls share exactly the same rhythm along the rim.
