Molten Glass Bowl on Whitewash Wood - Small

This is the smallest of the whitewashed-wood bowls in the range, pairing hand-blown recycled glass with a compact piece of Gamal wood finished in a pale whitewash. Made in Bali, its size suits a bathroom shelf, desk or narrow windowsill where the larger versions would not fit. As with the rest of the family, the glass was melted directly onto the wood, taking on the exact shape of that root as it cools.

Symbolism

The whitewashed finish is used across this small family of bowls to soften the natural wood tone while still letting the grain show through. Many people see this pairing of a fired material with a grown one as a small, everyday symbol of two very different processes meeting halfway. Because each wood root is different, this bowl's exact curve and grain belong only to this piece.
