Paired since an old English carol made them famous together, holly and ivy give their name to this pure fragrance oil, supplied undiluted in a full 500ml bottle for scenting the home rather than the skin.
Symbolism
Both plants keep their leaves through winter, and evergreen growth has long stood for endurance and continuity in the coldest months. Ivy in particular was traditionally associated with binding and lasting friendship, climbing and holding fast, while holly's tradition leans toward protection of the household through the dark season.
How to use
- Warm a few drops in an oil burner over a tea light for a steady scent through the room
- Stand the burner on a heat-resistant surface and never leave it burning unattended
- Add during candle or soap making, in line with the maker's own recipe
- A drop or two refreshes potpourri that has lost its scent
- Ventilate the room while burning, and keep the bottle away from children and pets
