This Buddha statue is hand-carved from Suar wood in the traditional Balinese style, standing approximately 40 cm tall with one hand lowered toward the ground. Carving a piece of this size can take several weeks, with all detailing done entirely by hand.
Spiritual meaning
The lowered hand is traditionally known in Buddhist iconography as the bhumisparsha, or earth-touching, gesture, marking a moment of steadfastness, which gives this pose its name. Being fully hand-carved, each statue varies slightly in grain and tone from the next.
