Stillness Buddha Head Statue with Stand – Green Copper Finish

A Buddha head with the eyes lowered, made in concrete and jempinis wood and finished in a green copper tone. It stands about 30 cm tall on its stand and weighs a little over 1.3 kg, enough to sit still on a shelf, a console table or the floor beside a cushion.

Symbolism

In Buddhist art almost every detail of the head is a sign. Half-closed eyes and a downward gaze stand for attention turned inward; long earlobes recall the heavy earrings of the prince who gave up his wealth; the raised curl at the crown, the ushnisha, is the traditional mark of awakening. Shown on its own, without the body, the head has become a familiar image of stillness, usually placed where a room is meant to slow down.

Care

• Dust with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners on the finish.
• Keep it indoors or under cover: concrete is porous, and frost and standing water can damage it.
• Lift it by the head rather than by the stand, and set it on a surface that takes the weight.
• Colour and texture vary slightly from piece to piece.
