Pink & Gold Coloured Calcite Geode 8.5 x 6 cm

Some objects earn their place by being looked at slowly. This is a calcite geode, about 8.5 cm across, split open so the crystal lining is visible. Pick it up and the two faces do different things: a rough stone crust on the one side, and on the other a bed of small pink and gold crystals that catches the light as you tilt it. Set it where you sit in the morning, or where the afternoon light falls.

Spiritual meaning

A geode is a hollow that filled slowly: mineral-rich water worked inside a cavity for a very long time and left crystals behind. In crystal lore geodes are associated with what is held and protected, and with patience, since nothing about their forming was quick. Calcite itself is traditionally linked to clearing a space and to fresh starts. Many people keep one open on a desk or an altar as a reminder that some things take their own time.

Care

• The crystals inside have been coloured, so handle the open face lightly and do not scrub it.
• Keep it dry. Calcite is a soft mineral and water marks it.
• Dust it with a dry, soft brush rather than a cloth, which catches on the points.
• Keep it out of long hours of direct sunlight, as the colour can fade.
• Every geode is different, so size, shape and crystal pattern vary from the photograph.
