Molten Glass Hanging Bowl on Wood

This bowl is shaped to hang rather than stand, with hand-blown recycled glass melted directly onto a natural Gamal wood frame made in Bali. Its rounded glass form sits within the wood rather than on top of a flat base, so it needs a hook or bracket sized to its weight to display properly. As with the rest of the range, the glass hardens around the exact shape of the wood as it cools.

Symbolism

Balinese makers describe this glass-and-wood combination as a meeting of two different kinds of nature: fire-shaped glass and slow-grown wood. Suspending the piece rather than resting it on a surface adds a further layer to that idea, letting the bowl catch light from more than one side. Many people choose a hanging piece like this specifically because it reads differently through the day as the light around it changes.
