Molten Glass Bowl on Wood - Large
This large bowl is made from hand-blown recycled glass melted directly onto a natural Gamal wood root, made in Bali. Its wide, open shape gives it a strong presence on a table or shelf, while the wood base keeps it grounded both visually and literally. The glass hardens into the exact contours of that particular root as it cools.
Symbolism
Balinese craftspeople see this way of working, glass shaped by heat, wood shaped by growth, as two very different timelines meeting in a single object. Many people find that contrast appealing precisely because it cannot be planned in advance: the final shape depends on the particular root used. Because of this, no two large bowls in this range are ever quite identical.
How to use
- Display as a centrepiece on a table, shelf or sideboard.
- Use for stones, air plants, cut flowers or dried botanicals.
- Wipe the glass with a soft, damp cloth and keep the wood away from prolonged direct heat or damp.
