Molten Coloured Glass Bowl on Wood - Medium

This medium bowl is made from coloured molten glass, melted while still hot over a natural Gamal wood root. Handcrafted in Bali from 100% recycled glass, it pairs a warm tint of colour with the pale, textured grain of the wood beneath it. Because the glass takes the exact shape of that particular root as it cools, each bowl comes out slightly different from the next.

Symbolism

In Balinese craft tradition, working molten glass over a live wood root is treated as a partnership rather than a mould-and-cast process: the glass adapts to what the wood offers, rather than the other way round. Many people read this as a small lesson in flexibility, letting the material meet a shape it did not choose. The tint of colour running through the glass adds a further individual note to each piece.

How to use

• Use for stones, air plants, cut flowers or as a small tray for potted succulents.
• Also suits a floating candle or a fishbowl-style display.
• Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the coloured glass.
