First thing in the morning, may chang is one of the brighter, citrus-like oils people use to help shake off any lingering fog. Steam-distilled from the fruit of Litsea cubeba in China, it has a fresh, lemony smell similar to lemongrass but slightly sweeter.
Energetic properties
Litsea cubeba has long been used in Chinese herbal tradition and, more recently, in perfumery for its bright, citrus-like scent. In aromatherapy tradition it is associated with clarity and renewed energy, and it makes an easy stand-in for oils like lemongrass or verbena in a morning blend.
How to use
- Diffuse a few drops in the morning
- Dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin, and patch test first
- Not for internal use
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
