Standing 100 cm tall, this large Buddha statue is hand-carved from Suar wood using traditional Balinese carving tools and techniques, a process that can take several weeks per piece. The whitewash finish softens the natural grain of the wood, and its scale makes it a striking floor-standing piece for a hallway, entrance or reading room.
Spiritual meaning
The raised hand is traditionally known in Buddhist iconography as the abhaya mudra, a gesture of reassurance and protection, which gives this pose its welcome name. Because each statue is shaped entirely by hand, colour, grain and small details vary from one piece to the next, and supply can be limited as a result.
