Spiritual meaning
The raised hand is traditionally known in Buddhist iconography as the abhaya mudra, a gesture of reassurance and protection, which is where this pose takes its welcome name. Because the carving is done entirely by hand, each statue is naturally unique in grain, tone and small details.
