Standing about 40 cm tall, this Buddha statue is hand-carved from a single piece of Suar wood using traditional Balinese tools. The larger scale of this piece makes it suited to a floor stand, wide console or hallway rather than a small shelf.
Spiritual meaning
The raised hand with fingers touching is traditionally known in Buddhist iconography as the dharmachakra, or teaching, gesture, associated with the transmission of teaching. As with every piece in the collection, the carving is done entirely by hand, so grain, tone and small details vary from one statue to the next.
