Copal has a long history of ceremonial use in Central and South America, traditionally burned to mark sacred space and honour transitions. Arruda, known in folk practice across parts of Europe and Latin America, is often added for its association with protection and cleansing.

- Light the tip, let it flame briefly, then blow it out so it smoulders
- Rest the holder on a heat-resistant surface away from draughts
- Never leave burning incense unattended, and keep away from children and pets
- Ventilate the room while it burns
