AUM Nomadic Incense Sticks – Pack of 6

Before a sitting, when the room is still full of the day, one stick is usually enough to change it. AUM is a resin and herb incense hand-rolled onto a bamboo core, deep and grounding rather than sweet, and it comes six sticks to a pack. Light it a few minutes before you begin, and let it burn while you settle.

Spiritual meaning

Aum, or Om, is the syllable that opens and closes practice in the Hindu, Buddhist and Jain traditions. The Upanishads describe it as the sound the universe is made of, and it is chanted at the start of a session to gather attention and at the end to let it go. An incense named after it is meant for that kind of use: the beginning and the end of something, rather than background scent.

How to use

• Set the bare end of the stick in a holder that catches the ash, or in a bowl of sand or rice.
• Light the tip, let it flame briefly, then blow it out so the ember glows.
• Burn it on a heat-resistant surface, away from curtains and anything flammable.
• Air the room while it burns, and never leave a lit stick unattended.
• Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
