This standing elephant statue is hand-carved in Indonesia from Albasia wood and finished in white with soft gold detailing across the ears and back. Albasia is a fast-growing wood found throughout South East Asia and is well suited to detailed decorative carving. Because each piece is finished by hand, colour and detail can vary slightly from one statue to the next, which is part of its character.
Symbolism
Across many Asian traditions the elephant represents wisdom, courage and stature, and ornamental elephant figures are commonly kept as a symbol of good luck.
