Symbolism
In Mexican and Central American tradition, black sage is burned for a deeper clearing than the lighter white sage, often associated with rest, dreaming and marking a real change of space. A larger bundle like this one is generally chosen when there is more ground to cover, such as several rooms rather than one.
How to use
- Light the leafy tip at an angle and let it catch, then blow out the flame so it smoulders and releases smoke.
- Rest it in a heatproof dish or shell and carry it slowly around the room, letting the smoke reach corners and doorways.
- Never leave a burning smudge stick unattended, and keep a window or door open while it burns.
