Symbolism
As with other white sage bundles, burning it is rooted in Indigenous North American tradition, where the smoke is used to clear a space before prayer or an important gathering. The name royal sage refers to the blend as sold rather than a distinct botanical variety, and the supplier has not specified what, if anything, is added to the base sage.
How to use
- Light the tip until it catches, then blow out the flame so the bundle smoulders and smokes rather than burns with an open flame.
- Carry it in a heatproof dish, moving slowly so the smoke has time to drift into corners.
- Keep it away from children and pets, never leave it unattended, and ventilate the room.
