You strike this gong at the start of a yoga class or a quiet evening ritual, letting the deep resonance fill the room before it slowly fades. This medium gong, finished in black and set on a carved wooden stand, is made in Bali, where gongs have long been sounded during temple ceremonies in Bali and Java.
Spiritual meaning
In Balinese and Javanese tradition, the gong is sounded to mark ceremonies and gatherings, its tone believed by many to help clear a space and settle the mind. Today it is also a familiar presence in yoga studios and meditation rooms, valued for the sustained sound it produces.
How to use
- Strike gently with the mallet at the edge for a softer tone, or closer to the centre for a fuller sound
- Use at the start or close of yoga, meditation or ceremony
- Keep on its stand on a stable, level surface away from foot traffic
- Dust the wooden stand and metal surface with a soft, dry cloth
