While putting away the baking spices after a holiday bake, the scent of Nutmeg oil stands out as warm, spicy and slightly woody, much more concentrated than the grated spice. Steam-distilled from the seeds of Myristica fragrans grown in Indonesia, it comes from the Banda Islands, the original home of the nutmeg trade.
Energetic properties
Nutmeg from the Banda Islands was once one of the most fiercely contested spices in world history, at times worth more than gold by weight during the height of the spice trade. In folk tradition it is linked to warmth and abundance, and today it adds a spicy, woody depth to autumn and winter blends.
How to use
- Use sparingly in a diffuser blend, paired with citrus or other warm spice oils.
- Dilute well in a carrier oil before skin contact, and patch test first.
