A full 1.25 kg loaf of cold-process soap, made on a base of vegetable oils and finely ground coconut shell. The shell powder gives the lather a light grain, so the bar feels gently scrubby rather than slippery. A loaf is cut into bars as they are needed: for the bathroom, for guests, or wrapped in paper as a gift.
Symbolism
Olive and coconut both carry long histories. Around the Mediterranean the olive has stood for peace and abundance since antiquity, while in India the coconut is offered in temples and broken at the start of something new, as a sign of purity. Washing is one of the oldest ritual gestures there is, and a plain bar of soap is often where a slower evening begins.
How to use
- Cut the loaf with a sharp, straight blade; a bar of about 100 g sits well in the hand.
- Keep the pieces not in use dry and airy, loosely wrapped in paper rather than plastic.
- Rest the bar in use on a draining dish so it dries out between washes and lasts longer.
- For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, and try it on a small area first if your skin is sensitive.
