A carved wooden fish in shades of aqua and turquoise sits at the top of this wind chime, with a cascade of capiz shell discs hanging beneath it. Driftwood, raffia cord and pale pinewood beads complete the piece, which is handmade in Indonesia and hangs to around 45-50 cm.
Symbolism
Wind chimes have long been hung near doors, windows and porches in the belief that their sound keeps negative energy from settling in a space. Many people also see the fish as a symbol of movement and flow, a fitting match for a piece that stirs gently whenever the air moves around it.
How to use
- Hang indoors near an open window or outdoors on a porch, veranda or covered garden corner.
- Choose a spot sheltered from heavy rain and strong midday sun, since the shell discs and driftwood are natural materials that can fade or weather over time.
- Handle the shells gently when hanging, as they are thin and can chip if knocked against a hard surface.
