This bowl is shaped for serving sweets, trinkets or small confections, formed from hand-blown recycled glass melted onto a natural Gamal wood base in Bali. Its slightly more ornate profile sets it apart from the plainer bowls in the range, while the underlying process stays the same: hot glass settling permanently onto a wood root. The wood's own contour decides the final shape as the glass cools.
Symbolism
Balinese makers see a serving piece like this as bringing the same natural pairing, fire-shaped glass and slow-grown wood, into an everyday moment such as offering sweets to a guest. Many people value that kind of object precisely because it does double duty as decoration and as something genuinely used. Because the wood root is unrepeatable, this bowl's shape and grain belong only to this piece.
