Oregano Essential Oil is not one to add to the diffuser without thinking first: one or two drops are usually enough, since it is one of the more potent oils in aromatherapy. Steam distilled from the leaves and flowers of Origanum vulgare grown in Spain, it has a sharp, green, herbaceous scent with a slightly camphorous edge, quite different from the dried herb in the kitchen cupboard.
Energetic properties
Traditionally used in small amounts rather than as a background scent, oregano oil is associated in aromatherapy with intensity and focus, the kind of sharp, assertive note that cuts through a blend rather than sitting softly in it. It suits people who already know and like strong herbal scents.
How to use
- Use sparingly: one to two drops is usually enough in a diffuser.
- Always dilute well in a carrier oil before any skin contact, and patch test first, due to its high phenol content.
- Do not ingest. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- If pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a doctor before use.
