At the dressing table in the morning, a single drop of Helichrysum Essential Oil added to a facial oil blend brings a warm, honeyed, slightly herbaceous scent to the routine. It is steam distilled from the small, golden flowers of Helichrysum italicum, a silver-leaved perennial herb grown in Italy, and it is one of the more costly oils in aromatherapy because of how many flowers are needed for a small amount of oil.
Symbolism
The name Helichrysum comes from the Greek helios, meaning sun, and chrysos, meaning gold, a reference to the flower's bright yellow colour, and the plant has long been called the everlasting flower because its blooms keep their shape and colour after drying. It has featured in herbal traditions since ancient Greece.
How to use
- Add one or two drops to a facial oil or moisturiser blend, in a small carrier oil dilution.
- Always dilute before skin contact and patch test on a small area first.
- Do not ingest. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- If pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a doctor before use.
