When you open the windows first thing in the morning, this is the moment to reach for a white sage and eucalyptus smudge stick. The dried leaves are bound into a compact 10 cm bundle that you light at one end and let smoulder, carrying a cool, herbal scent through the room as the smoke drifts from corner to corner.
Spiritual meaning
White sage has long been burned in Indigenous North American tradition to clear a space before prayer or ceremony, and eucalyptus is valued across many cultures for its sharp, cooling scent. Together they are traditionally associated with a fresh start, and many people reach for this blend at the beginning of a new week or as the seasons turn.
How to use
- Light the leafy tip at an angle and let it catch, then blow out the flame so it smoulders and releases smoke.
- Rest it in a heatproof dish or shell and carry it slowly around the room, letting the smoke reach corners and doorways.
- Never leave a burning smudge stick unattended, and keep a window or door open while it burns.
