When you reach for your gong, the mallet you choose shapes the whole sound. This large felted stick, 23cm long, is padded to draw out a rounder, fuller tone with less of the sharp attack you get from bare wood.
Symbolism
In gong and singing bowl practice, the felt head is traditionally used when a softer, more sustained resonance is wanted, useful in sound baths and longer meditation sessions where a harsh strike would break the mood.
How to use
- Hold the stick by the wooden handle, letting your wrist stay loose
- Strike the gong gently at first, increasing pressure to build volume
- Circle the rim of a singing bowl with light, even pressure for a sustained tone
- Keep the felt head dry and away from direct sunlight
