Partway through a morning skincare routine, geranium is one of the floral oils many people blend in for its balancing reputation. Steam-distilled from the leaves, stalks and flowers of Pelargonium graveolens, it has a strong, rosy, slightly minty smell that is unmistakably its own.
Energetic properties
Geranium has long stood in for the far costlier rose oil in perfumery, prized for a scent that is floral without being overly sweet. In aromatherapy tradition it is associated with emotional balance and a settled mood, and it blends easily into both floral and woody combinations.
How to use
- Blend a few drops into a carrier oil for the skin
- Patch test on a small area before wider use
- Add a few drops to a diffuser
- Not for internal use
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
