Evening, the lamp turned low, something to do with your hands before bed. This pack pairs lavender incense with a small bag of amethyst chips: light a stick for the scent, and keep the stones where you can see them. The lavender is floral and herbaceous, closer to the dried flower than to soap.

Spiritual meaning

Lavender has been strewn on floors, burned and tucked into linen across Europe for centuries, and is traditionally linked to rest, cleanliness and protection. Amethyst, the violet variety of quartz, takes its name from the Greek amethystos, not intoxicated, and in crystal lore it is associated with calm, clarity and the third eye chakra. Together they belong to the end of the day rather than the start of it.

How to use

• Set the stick in a holder that catches the ash, light the tip, then blow out the flame so the ember glows.
• Burn it on a heat-resistant surface, away from curtains and anything that can catch.
• Air the room while it burns, and never leave a lit stick unattended.
• Keep the sticks and the loose stones out of reach of children and pets: the chips are small enough to swallow.
• Rinse the chips in cool water if they gather dust, and keep them out of long hours of direct sun, which can fade amethyst.
