A mantra is meant to be repeated, and engraving one onto a bowl is a way of making that repetition physical rather than just spoken. This Tibetan Engraved Singing Bowl is made in Nepal from a blend of brass, copper, bronze, iron and silver, its 16cm body carrying a mantra design around the exterior surface.
Symbolism
Mantras are sacred sounds, words or phrases used across meditation and chanting practices, each carrying its own meaning and rhythm. Engraved onto a singing bowl, a mantra design is traditionally thought to connect the visual object with the sound and intention behind the words themselves.
How to use
- Place the bowl on a flat, stable surface or a supporting cushion.
- Circle a wooden striker steadily around the rim to build a sustained tone, or tap once for a single note.
- Use the sound as an anchor while chanting or reciting a mantra of your own.
