In an old apothecary garden, sage was one of the herbs grown closest to the house, valued highly enough that its Latin name, salvia, comes from the word for saving or healing. This oil is steam distilled from the dried leaves of Salvia officinalis, the same sage used in cooking.
Energetic properties
In European herbal tradition, sage is associated with wisdom and protection, and was historically one of the most trusted plants in the herb garden. Its scent is warm, herbal and slightly camphorous.
How to use
- Add a drop or two to a diffuser, as the scent is strong and herbal
- Dilute well in a carrier oil before skin contact and patch test on a small area first
- Sage oil is generally avoided during pregnancy: ask a doctor before use
