This medium bowl pairs hand-blown recycled glass with a piece of natural Gamal wood, set on its own wooden stand. Made in Bali, its elongated shape and stand let it double as a low, sculptural centrepiece rather than a simple table bowl. The glass hardens directly onto the wood as it cools, so the fit between the two is exact.
Symbolism
In Balinese craft tradition, adding a stand to a piece like this is treated as a way of letting the bowl stand independently, without needing a shelf edge or wall to lean against. Many people see this self-sufficiency as part of the appeal, alongside the usual pairing of fire-shaped glass and earth-grown wood. Because no two wood roots are alike, this bowl's grain and shape are unique to this piece.
How to use
- Display on the included stand as a low centrepiece for a table or sideboard.
- Fill with stones, air plants or dried botanicals rather than liquids.
- Wipe the glass with a soft, damp cloth and keep the wood away from prolonged direct heat or damp.
