Opening the windows on a bright morning, a couple of drops of May Chang oil in the diffuser bring a sharp, lemony scent into the room, similar to lemongrass but lighter and slightly fruity. Steam-distilled from the small pepper-like fruits of Litsea cubeba grown in China, it has long been part of East Asian herbal and culinary tradition.
Energetic properties
Litsea cubeba has been used in Chinese herbal practice for centuries, valued for its fresh, uplifting citrus-like scent even though the plant is unrelated to true citrus trees. Many people use it as a lighter, more affordable alternative to lemongrass or verbena in a morning diffuser blend.
How to use
- Diffuse in the morning, alone or blended with other citrus or floral oils.
