Spiritual meaning
Darshan is a Sanskrit word for the act of seeing and being seen by the sacred, the moment of standing before a shrine or a teacher. Incense with this name is traditionally burned at the start of devotional practice, and many people use it to mark the boundary between ordinary time and quiet time. In Indian households, a lit stick before the household altar is an everyday gesture of welcome rather than a grand ritual.
How to use
- Push the bare end of the stick into an incense holder or a bowl of sand or ash.
- Light the coated tip, let the flame catch, then blow it out so the ember glows.
- Always stand the holder on a heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, paper and fabric.
- Air the room while burning and afterwards, and never leave a burning stick unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets, and store the pack somewhere cool and dry.
