Hand-carved in Indonesia from Albasia wood, this standing elephant figure is finished in white and turquoise with a light gold accent picked out across the surface. Albasia is a fast-growing wood common across South East Asia, prized by carvers for being easy to shape into detailed forms. As with any hand-finished piece, small variations in colour and detail mean each statue is slightly different from the next.
Symbolism
The elephant is traditionally associated with wisdom, courage and strength across many Asian cultures, and ornamental elephants are often kept simply as a token of good fortune. It makes an easy gift for anyone drawn to the animal, or for someone who appreciates the skill involved in shaping a figure like this by hand. Placed on a shelf or sideboard, it works equally well alone or alongside the matching white and gold version.
