On a quiet morning before the day gets busy, a single drop of Star Anise oil warmed in a diffuser fills the room with a warm, sweet, liquorice-like scent. Steam-distilled from the star-shaped seed pods of Illicium verum, grown and harvested in China, it is one of the more distinctive spice oils in a home collection, easy to recognise even in a small blend.
Symbolism
In East Asian tradition, the eight-pointed pod of star anise is often linked to luck, protection and new beginnings, and it appears in Lunar New Year customs and spice blends passed down through generations. Perfumers and home blenders alike reach for it to add a warm, spicy backbone to woodier or citrus accords, and in crystal and incense lore it is traditionally associated with clarity of intention when used during quiet, focused moments.
How to use
- Add 1-2 drops to a diffuser or oil burner on their own or blended with citrus or woody oils.
- Dilute well in a carrier oil before any contact with skin, and always patch test a small area first.
- Do not ingest, and keep bottles well out of reach of children and pets.
- Avoid use during pregnancy without checking with a doctor first.
