This open, wide-mouthed bowl is formed from hand-blown recycled glass melted directly onto a substantial natural Gamal wood base, made in Bali. Its broader, more open profile sets it apart from the deeper bowls elsewhere in this range, giving it a strong presence as a stand-alone piece. The glass hardens around the wood's own shape as it cools, so the fit is exact.
Symbolism
Balinese artisans see an open form like this as giving the glass room to flow and settle more freely than a narrow shape would allow, which is part of why pieces like this can take longer to make. Many people value that extra time in the process as part of what makes each bowl distinct. Because no two wood bases are alike, this piece's exact width and grain belong only to it.
